In this demo I use an actual maple branch as my painting reference. Once I draw my branch study I create a mask from its outline. The mask is used to protect my transparent watercolor illustration from the background colors. I can select the mask area or invert the selection and work on the background. The protected area will effect how the watercolors will mix and move in the background. We can solve this in several ways…
